Green Velvet

Known alternately as Cajmere and Green Velvet, Curtis Jones (b. Chicago, April 26, 1968) is an American DJ, producer, singer and composer of electronic house music. He began to make a name for himself in 1991 with the release of his first EP, Underground Goodies, before making a name for himself in 1993, notably by collaborating with singer Dajae on the hit " Brighter Days ". A prolific career followed, punctuated by studio albums under the name Green Velvet, as well as a flurry of EPs and remixes (Madona, Basement Jaxx, etc.). In 2012, Ony 4 U: The Sound of Cajmere and Cajual Records 1992-2012, an anthology compiling the twenty-year career of his label Cajual Records, was published. His early techno and house classics on Relief Records include "Flash" (1994), "The Stalker " (1996), "Preacher Man" (1998) and "Answering Machine" (2000). After his first three albums Constant Chaos (1999), Whatever (2001) including "La La Land" and Walk in Love (2005), Curtis Jones continued to juggle his pseudonyms, collaborating with Phil Kieran, his protégé Jamie Principle, Patrick Topping, Mark Knight, Gene Farris, Harvard Bass, Jay Lumen and the great Carl Craig, with whom he produced the album Unity (2015). Other releases followed with Detlef, Shiba San or Riva Starr, Coyu, Chris Lake, Mason Maynard and Mihalis Safras between 2017 and 2019, then Eli Brown and Camelphat. In 2024, Chris Lake and Bontan remix his 2000 hit "Percolator" .
