Guckkasten

Guckkasten (Korean: 국카스텐), a South Korean indie rock band, was formed in 2003 under the name The C.O.M. (The Compass of Music). The original lineup included vocalist Ha Hyun-woo, guitarist Jeon Kyu-ho, drummer Lee Jung-gil, and bassist Kim Jin-eok. However, due to mandatory military service, the band disbanded briefly. In 2007, the remaining members regrouped and renamed the band Guckkasten, inspired by the German word for "Chinese-style kaleidoscope," symbolizing their desire to create psychedelic, ever-evolving music that mirrors life's complexities. The band signed with Yedang Entertainment in 2008 and released their debut self-titled album in 2009, followed by a successful first solo concert in Seoul. Their music, a blend of rock, psychedelic, and experimental sounds, quickly gained them recognition. Guckkasten won Rookie of the Year and Best Rock Song for "Mirror" at the 2010 Korean Music Awards. Their discography includes studio albums Guckkasten (2009), Frame (2014), and Stranger (2017), along with EPs Tagträume (2010) and Stranger (2017), and a compilation album Time After Time Selection (2012). Currently, the band's lineup consists of Ha Hyun-woo (vocals, guitar), Jeon Kyu-ho (guitar), Lee Jung-gil (drums), and Kim Ki-bum (bass guitar). In 2025, they released their latest single "Theme.2", which showcases their evolving musical style while maintaining the signature psychedelic elements that define their sound.
