Formed by vocalist/guitarist Lzzy Hale and her brother, percussionist Arejay Hale, Halestorm is one of the best-selling female-fronted hard rock acts in American history. The siblings began playing together in 1997, while both musicians were still children in Red Lion, Pennsylvania. Although they released an independent EP, (Don't Mess With the) Time Man, in 1999, it wasn't until 2009 that Halestorm made its major-label debut with the self-titled album Halestorm. The gold-certified album reached Number 40 on the Billboard 200 and Number 11 on Top Rock Albums, while also earning four Top 40 singles on the Mainstream Rock Singles chart. With a busy touring schedule that often found the band playing more than 250 shows per year, Halestorm topped the Mainstream Rock Singles chart with "Freak Like Me." The song appeared on the band's 2012 album The Strange Case Of..., whose track "Loves Bites (So Do I)" earned Halestorm a Grammy Award for "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance." The band returned to Number 1 with "Apocalyptic" and "Amen," both from the 2015 album Into the Wild Life. Vicious followed in 2018; like its predecessor, it reached Number 1 on both the UK Rock Chart and the US Top Rock Albums chart. The Grammy-nominated single "Uncomfortable" became Halestorm's fourth Number 1 hit in America, and the group retuned in 2022 with Back from the Dead, an album that featured the back-to-back chart-topping hits "Back from the Dead" and "The Steeple."
