Hope Tala (born November 18, 1997 in London, England) is a British singer-songwriter. Singing from the age of 15, she soon began recording and sharing demos online. Inspired by Latin and R&B genres, her first single, “Blue” was released in June 2018 and included on her debut EP Starry Ache, released in October that year. Tala’s second single “Lovestained” was recorded while finishing her degree in English Literature, placing at number 8 on Rolling Stone magazine’s “50 Best Songs of 2019” list, and included on her second EP Sensitive Soul, released on June 14, 2019. In 2020, Tala declined an offer to study for a Master’s degree in English Literature at Cambridge University, deciding to pursue a career in music instead. Signing with EMI Records, her Spanish-influenced feminist anthem “All My Girls Like to Fight”, was released on September 25, 2020 and listed as one of former U.S president Barack Obama’s favourite songs of 2020. Shortly after, Tala released her third EP Girl Eats Sun on November 13, 2020, recording three singles throughout 2021 and early 2022; the Bossa Nova-infused “Mad” , “Tiptoeing” and “Party Sickness” , before releasing her powerful protest track “Is It Enough”, on July 8, 2022.
