Younger brother of the late rapper J Dilla, Illa J (born John Derek Yancey in Detroit in 1986) really got into music after Dilla's death in 2006. Author of two EPs, Illa J EP in 2007 and 4 Past Midnite in 2010, he also made a name for himself on longer formats with the albums Yancey Boys and Illa J LP, released in 2008 and 2015 respectively. Meanwhile, his career has also included two albums with Slum Village, released in 2013 and 2015, and one with Yancey Boys, in 2013.
