Born in Córdoba, Andalusia on October 13, 1985, Jenifer Yésica Martínez Fernández is known by her stage name India Martínez: a flamenco and pop artist who spices her sound with a Hindu and Arab music twist. Fed on a diet of flamenco from an early age, India Martínez began taking dance classes in Córdoba aged five and started singing aged 11, gaining the nickname "La Niña del Puerto" after moving with her parents to Puerto de Roquetas de Mar (Almería). By 2003 she had signed a recording contract and welcomed the release of her debut album, Azulejos de Lunares, the following year, which featured fresh takes on the classic boleros and tangos by José María Cortina. Her second album, the flamenco-led Despertar, came in 2009 and helped her star to ascend with a nomination for Best New Artist at the Latin Grammy Awards of 2009. India Martínez released her third album in 2011, Trece Verdades, featuring the single "Vencer Al Amor," which was a huge hit in Spain. The follow-up album, the gold-selling Otras Verdades (2012), earned her another Latin Grammy nomination for best traditional vocal pop album while in 2015 she picked up the Goya award for the song of the Spanish film El Niño. She garnered another two success stories with her subsequent albums, Duel and Te Cuento Un Secreto, with the latter topping the Spanish chart. 2019 saw the release of Palmeras and in 2021 she released the single "Mi Luna Llena."
