James Smith – better-known as award-winning electronica, house, and dubstep artist/producer Jamie xx – was born in London, England on October 28, 1988. He is best-known for his remixes and production as well as his solo recordings and releases with The xx. His career began in 2005 when he formed The xx with some schoolmates from the Elliot School in London. He began using the Jamie xx name in 2009 when remixing tracks from the first album by the xx. The self-titled debut album by The xx was released in the summer of 2009 and was an immediate hit, hitting the Top 40 in the UK, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and France. Their next album, Coexist (2012), sailed to the top of the charts in the UK, Belgium, New Zealand, and Switzerland. Their third album, I See You (2017), equaled the success of Coexist. Alongside his work with The xx, he also achieved success in 2011 with the album We’re New Here, his remix of Gil Scott-Heron’s 2010 album I’m New Here. His first solo release was the single “Far Nearer/Beat For” in 2011. Jamie xx’s first solo album was 2015’s In Colour, which climbed to Number 1 on the UK Indie chart. Over the years, Jamie xx has remixed many artists including Florence + the Machine, Adele, Radiohead, Eliza Doolittle, and Four Tet. His release "All You Children"(2014) adds to his rich discography, highlighting his ability to blend intricate beats with a deep musical sensibility. The followed year, he composed the score for the Manchester International Festival ballet Tree of Codes, and then collaborated with Tyler, the Creator, Oliver Sims and Romy. At the same time, he's working on his next album In Waves (2024), including collaborations with Honey Dijon, The Avalanches, Kelsey Lu, Panda Bear and Robyn. This third album reached number five in the British charts.
