Janka Nabay is the first artist to record bubu music, the ancestral musical form of Sierra Leone's Temne ethnic group. Bubu music is played by troupes of up to twenty musicians, using bamboo as wind instruments. Janka Nabay decided to preserve this traditional culture by recording it during the bloody civil war that ravaged her country between 1991 and 2002. In 2003, Janka Nabay left for the United States and Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), where he tried to make his art better known. In 2010, he formed the group Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang and released the album Bubu King. Always on the lookout, the Luako Bop label signed Janka Nabay in 2012 and released the album En Yay Sah in August 2012.
