JayDaYoungan is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. Born Javarious Scott on July 15, 1998, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, JayDaYoungan began releasing his music online in 2015, quickly gaining a following with his emotionally raw and honest lyrics which spoke to the struggles and realities of growing up amongst poverty and violence. In 2017, he released Ruffwayy, a mixtape which showcased his unique sound and earned him a dedicated local fanbase. Continuing to gain popularity with subsequent release Wake Up, the mixtape featured popular track "Interstate" which attracted over 4 million views online. 2018 saw the release of 23, gaining him international recognition with the release of hit single "Elimination", with the track going viral on social media and subsequently certified Gold. His next mixtape Forever 23 reached number 86 on the Billboard 200 and number 37 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with singles “Thot Thot” and “Purge” garnering millions of streams. Continuing to build on his discography, JayDaYoungan’s next mixtapes Endless Pain and Can’t Speak On It (a collaboration with rapper Yungeen Ace) also attained similar chart success. In 2019 he released the single “23 Island”, from the mixtape Misunderstood, which charted at number 9 and was certified 3xPlatinum. Reaching number 36 on the Billboard Emerging Artists Chart in 2020, JayDaYoungan went on to release lead single “Touch Your Toes” (feat. Latto), from his debut album Baby23, which appeared on June 5, peaking at number 47 on the Billboard 200 chart, with the project featuring guest appearances from artists like DeJ Loaf, Kevin Gates, and Yo Gotti. He followed this with 13-track mixtape 23 is Back the following year, while battling considerable legal issues. He died on August 7, 2022 from gunshot wounds and his second album Forever 23 2x was released posthumously on February 3, 2023 in Bogalusa, Louisiana, reaching 188 on the Billboard 200 charts.
