JoJo

Born on December 20th, 1990, Joanna Levesque is an American singer-songwriter who goes by the stage name of JoJo, which is what she was called as a child growing up in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Known now for her expressive vocal delivery of mostly R&B songs, she entered singing competitions when she was young and appeared on the television show America's Most Talented Kid in 2003. She landed a recording contract and her debut single “Leave (Get Out)” made her, at 13, the youngest performer to top Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 Chart in 2004. It appeared on her eponymously titled debut album, which went to number four on the Billboard 200 and number ten on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart. Another single from the album, “Baby It's You” featuring Bow Wow, went to number seven on the Mainstream Top 40 Chart. Her second album, The High Road, peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and a single from the release, “Too Little Too Late”, reached number two on the Mainstream Top 40 Chart. A role in the 2002 feature film Developing Sheldon led to several videos and in 2006 she co-starred with Emma Roberts in the fantasy comedy Aquamarine. Conflict with her record label led to her absence from the recording studio for several years and she continued with her acting career, which included appearances in RV (2006), True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet (2008) and Hawaii Five-O (2011) and later Clevver Now (2016) and the TV series Lethal Weapon (2017). She appeared on tracks with other artists such as K-Ci, Timbaland and Tupac Shakur, which resulted in several Grammy Award nominations, and released a couple of mixtapes titled Can't Take That Away From Me (2010) and Agápe (2012) before signing a new contract with Atlantic Records in 2014. She went on to release three EPs, LoveJo (2014), III (2015), and LoveJo2 (2015), the second of which included the Billboard Dance Club Songs #3 hit “When Love Hurts”. Her third studio album, Mad Love, reached number six on the Billboard 200 in 2016. Rolling Stone magazine ranked it among the Best Pop Albums of 2016. In the years since, JoJo has counted Maroon 5’s PJ Morton, Norwegian electronica producer Lido and Eternal member Louise among her collaborators. After founding her own label, the Warner joint venture Clover Music, she returned with a pair of albums in 2020 – the chart success Good to Know and the Christmas album December Baby – before teasing another new album with the release of the introspective 2021 single “American Mood”.
