The daughter of a former Baptist minister, Ashlee Simpson studied ballet from the age of three, winning a place at New York's School of American Ballet. Her sister Jessica was already a recording star when Ashlee started appearing on television and made her own recording debut in 2002, singing on a Christmas album, with another track, Just Let Me Cry, on the soundtrack of the movie Freaky Friday. Following the success of sister Jessica's Newlyweds show, Ashlee got her own reality TV show and released debut album Autobiography (2004). Every track was co-written by Ashlee and the irresistibly poppy album - including the summer smash Pieces Of Me - was an immediate success, going to Number 1 in the US charts. She subsequently became a popular live attraction, starred in the movie Undiscovered and released her second album I Am Me in 2005, which included another major hit Boyfriend. Ashlee worked with various top dance producers, including Timbaland, on third album Bittersweet World in 2007 and after concentrating for a spell on acting, she was back recording a new album in 2010.
