José Madero is a Mexican rock singer who rose to fame as the frontman of the band Panda. He was born in the municipality of San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León where as a teenager he would listen to punk rock and grunge before eventually forming his own group in 1996 called 'The Purgatory'. The band were heavily influenced by artists such as Alice in Chains and underwent numerous lineup changes during their first year before eventually emerging as Panda. The band comprised of Ricardo Treviño, Jorge Luis Garza, David Castillo and Madero, who claims he only became the band's vocalist after losing a bet with his bandmates. Whatever the circumstances surrounding the choice of vocalist it's a decision which has worked out well for the band and they have become one of Mexico's best known rock bands. Their debut album 'Arroz con Leche' was released in 2000 but it wasn't until their third album 'For You With Contempt' which they released in 2005 that the band's career took off and they became an international hit. During the early part of Panda's career Madero studied law and eventually graduated and worked for a law firm until the lure of being a full-time musician proved too great and he went professional in 2007. Following the 15th anniversary of their first album the band embarked on a commemorative tour before announcing they would be taking a break to pursue other projects.
