Jowell & Randy is a Puerto Rican reggaeton duo comprising Joel A. "Jowell" Muñoz Martinez and Randy Arrea, who have carved a significant niche in the reggaeton music scene since the early 2000s. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, and raised in Cataño, Puerto Rico, Jowell was inspired by the pioneering rapper Vico C, leading him to his first recording session in 1996. Randy, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, joined the music world with a choir background and an affinity for rhythm and blues, blues, and soul music. Inspired by the success of other reggaeton duos, Jowell & Randy joined forces in 2000 and signed with Diamond Music in 2002, leading to their inclusion on The Majestic album. Despite early struggles for recognition in Puerto Rico, a chance encounter with producer Elías de León led to their signing with White Lion Records, marking the beginning of their rise to fame. The formation of the supergroup Casa de Leones in 2007, alongside other reggaeton artists, led to the release of a self-titled album. This project was critically acclaimed, peaking at number 3 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart. The lead single, "No Te Veo," landed in the Top 5 of the Hot Latin Songs chart in the US. Their studio debut, Los Más Sueltos del Reggaeton, was released in December of that year. It featured popular tracks like "Un Poco Loca" and "Let's Do It," further establishing their presence in the Latin urban scene. El Momento, released in 2010, marked a significant moment in their career. The album featured collaborations with major reggaeton figures such as Yandel, De La Ghetto, and Plan B, and peaked at number 2 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart. It was followed by 2013's Sobredoxis, which hit the top of the Latin Rhythm Albums chart, and the mixtapes Under Doxis (2014) and La Alcaldía del Perro (2016), both of which cracked the Top 10 of the Latin charts in the United States. Viva el Perreo, Jowell & Randy's fourth full-length album, came out in 2020 and was certified gold by the RIAA.
