Park Soo-young, better known to the world by her artistic moniker Joy, is a South Korean singer, actress, and TV presenter. She was born on September 3, 1996, in Jeju Island, South Korea. She became interested in music at a very early age, performing at school functions and festivals. She auditioned successfully for SM Entertainment at the SM Global Audition in Seoul in 2012, which kickstarted her career. After training extensively in the performing arts, she adopted the stage name Joy and joined the girl group Red Velvet in 2014. Red Velvet was highly successful, releasing singles such as "Happiness" and becoming one of the most influential groups in the competitive K-pop industry, even appearing on the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list in 2018. In 2015, Joy appeared in MBC's variety show We Got Married, performing with Yook Sung-jae. Around this time, Joy also started developing an acting career, appearing in dramas such as The Liar and His Lover and The One and Only. 2020 saw the beginning of Joy's career as a solo artist, releasing the song "Introduce Me a Good Person" for the soundtrack to the show Hospital Playlist. The next year, she released her debut solo album Hello (2021). Hello topped the streaming charts in 26 countries, making it one of the most impactful debut solo albums in South Korean music history. The album was also nominated for the Melon Music Awards and the Seoul Music Awards. In 2023, Joy released the single "Blue Night Song," a dreamy pop ballad in collaboration with Ha Dong Qn.
