Formed in 2006 in Brussels, Kel Assouf is a Tuareg/blues rock band formed by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Anana Harouna Harouna was born in Niger and lived in Libya in the early 1990s during the Tuareg rebellion. He was exiled to Brussels in 2006 and founded Kel Assouf, a multi-cultural band comprised of musicians from Algeria, Mali, France, Mauritaia, and Ghana. The band’s music blended desert blues, a touch of electronica, and world music. Kel Assouf built up their reputation as a live band over the next few years. Their debut album, Tin Hanane, was released in 2010. Their second album, Tikounen, was released in 2016. Black Tenere, the band’s third album, was released in 2019 and received critical praise.
