Kifra-L

The group Kifra-L has its roots in the Nzeng-Ayong district of Libreville, the capital of Gabon. Formed in 1998 by Décibel, Kaiz, Refr-1, Van's, Black Symphony, Kc, Wency, Mike and JMF, the name serves as a double reference: both Kartel International from the Force Rapologique Africaine Libre and the slang pronunciation of Afrique, with the addition of the letter L standing for Afrique Libre. The members come together to capitalize on their shared passion for rap, which they would like to see developed on a national scale. The group unveiled "Kifradamus " in 2000, laying the groundwork for their aesthetic approach, close to the American rap of the 1990s, which mediates rappers' daily lives and desires for emancipation. Kifra-L soon followed this up with "Apocalypse Now", a track featured on the Mémoire Vive compilation, before signing to Dangher Production in 2002. The 2003 release of "Laissez faire les pros" marked a turning point for the group, who became a national rap figure. Their rise to prominence was confirmed with "Welcome", featured on the Haut Style compilation (2004), followed by "No cracking ", which won them the title of Best Up-and-Coming Hip-Hop Group at the 2006 Balafons Gabon Music Awards. Ghetto was followed by Kifra-L's debut album, supported by the single "Wazé". During the 2010s, the group toured the African continent, occasionally unveiling new singles, including "Mélodie" and above all "Na lingui yo" (2017) featuring Cameroonian singer Daphné, which preceded the release of Best Of (2018), a compilation of the group's best tracks. The transition to the 2020 decade is more discreet and complicated, due to the global covid-19 pandemic, before a return to the forefront with the track "Elone vibe" (2021) and a featuring with Latchow ("Le but" in 2022), synonymous with new momentum for Kifra-L.
