A serial contender for the Eurovision title, Greek Cypriot singer-songwriter Constantínos Christofórou soon became synonymous with his home country’s presence in the televised talent show, representing Greece a whopping three times over the course of nine years. However, not just a novelty act, the young singer managed to achieve a strong track record independent of the show, refining a distinctive sound straddling pop, folk and local traditional music with his original works. Born on April 25th, 1977 in Limassol, Cyprus, Christofórou made his debut while still at high school with the 1994 EP Tora Pou Milas, which included a cover of one of his personal favourite Eurovision tracks, foreshadowing his unrelenting fixation on the song contest to come. In 1996, he won the platform’s national heats, going on to place ninth with “Mono Yia Mas”, and returned later the same year with a debut solo album, O, Ti M'afora, which was promptly certified triple platinum in Cyprus. By 1999, Christofórou was invited to join chart-topping boy band One as their new frontman, an offer which he couldn’t resist. He went on to release three platinum-certified albums with the group, with whom he reprised his role at Eurovision in 2002, performing the song “Gimme”. The band placed sixth, signifying a new personal best for Christofórou, although he decided to part ways with them shortly thereafter, refocusing on his solo career. His second album, 2003’s I Agapi Sou Paei, went platinum in Cyprus, too, and spawned a hit single in the Anna Vissi collaboration “Pote Min Les Pote”. Continuing to perform strongly on a regional level with his growing oeuvre of albums, he returned to Eurovision for a third time in 2005 with “Ela Ela (Come Baby)”, placing eighteenth, and has since released several more LPs, with the majority of them only available in select Greek-speaking territories. In 2020, Christofórou rejoined One, marking their comeback with a string of singles including “Billy Bam Bam” and “Diskola Ta Pramata”.
