The Australian vocalist, songwriter, and electronic producer known as Kyson (born Jian Kellett Liew in Adelaide) emerged in 2011 with his debut EP of ambient electronica, Musk, and garnered attention for his remix of Bon Iver's "Holocene" in 2012. Later that year, the Berlin-based beatmaker released his Blackstone EP on Moodgadget Recordings. He issued his first studio album, The Water's Way, the following year on Friends of Friends Records, with his gaze fixed somewhere between the dancefloor and the chillout room. Following a collaborative track with Detroit musician Shigeto in 2014, "Water Collides", a second full-length solo album arrived in 2016, A Book of Flying, which waded through serene ambient waters with a remix album putting a fresh spin on the tracks in 2017. Mixing soft vocals with folk touches and an electronic backbone, he continued to build on his repertoire with a string of singles for B3SCI Records and Majestic Casual Records in 2018, "Every High / Clear Air" and "Have My Back / Forest Green", with another slew of singles landing in 2019, including "After the Rain". 2020 saw the release of his third and vocals-heavy self-titled LP, while the "Our New World" single was released in 2021. The following year, he teamed with YUUL for a pair of singles and an EP, the plaintive classical crossover-friendly YUUl 1 (Piano Solo).
