The Taiwanese pop singer Lala Hsu was born in Hualien County in 1984. After leaving school she worked as a nurse in a veterans hospital in Taichung and then at the age of 24 entered the reality TV talent show 'One Million Star' with a song written by herself and the well-known Taiwanese singer Su Tongda. After winning the competition Hsu's career took off rapidly and the following year she released her debut album 'Lala Hsu' which went on to be nominated for six prestigious Golden Melody Awards. Hsu is a prolific composer and songwriter and her combination of narrative lyrical style using operatic influences sung in a blend of Mandarin and Fujian language has made her one of Taiwan's most popular modern artists. She has written dozens of songs for other artists as well as releasing five studio albums and numerous singles. Her work is frequently incorporated into Chinese language films and TV shows and she has become one of the most influential figures in the Taiwanese music industry.
