Lay Bankz

Born on June 11, 2004, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lay Bankz is an American rapper and singer-songwriter known for her Jersey club-inflected brand of contemporary R&B music. Of Eritrean descent, she grew up in Southwest Philadelphia and began writing her own raps by the age of 10. Her early interest in music led to the release of her first song, "Passion," in 2019 when she was just 15. In 2022, her career took a significant leap forward when she signed with Artist Partner Group, releasing the debut single "Left Cheek (Doo Doo Blick)" under the label. This track, along with "Na Na Na," released in August 2023, gained viral success on social media, catapulting her into the spotlight. Her debut EP Now You See Me came out in 2023, followed by singles "Ick" (2023) and "Tell Ur Girlfriend" (2024). The latter track marked her first charting success in the US by peaking at number 58 on the Billboard 200 and number 17 on the R&B charts. The single also charted in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK, boosting her popularity across the global music scene. The single was later included in her studio debut After 7, released in May 2024 via APG.
