Leon Thomas III got his start in musical comedy before building a career under his own name in an evolved R&B style. Born Leon George Thomas III in New York on August 1, 1993, he appeared on stage from the age of 10 in Broadway productions such as The Lion King in 2003, then in California in The Color Purple, before signing with Nickelodeon to lend his voice to animated films. Thomas signed his second mixtape V1bes in 2014 and collaborated with Kehlani and Post Malone, followed up with Before the Beginning (2016), collecting tracks left out, and offered new material on the Genesis EP (2018), in between several TV roles. Nominated for a Grammy Award for his composition of the Rick Ross track "Gold Roses ", the musician works with Drake on Certified Lover Boy (2021) and signs with the Motown subsidiary launched by Ty Dolla Sign, EZMNY Records, for the release of his debut album Electric Dusk (2023), on which Benny the Butcher collaborates. He affixed his name to other productions by Yussef Dayes and Kanye West, and set to work on the album Mutt (2024), featuring guests Masego, Wale, Baby Rose, Freddie Gibbs and his loyal associate Ty Dolla Sign.
