Less Than Jake

Less Than Jake are an American ska-punk band who formed in 1992 in Gainesville, Florida. Known for their infectious blend of punk rock energy, ska rhythms, and witty, sometimes socially-conscious lyrics, the band quickly became one of the most influential groups in the third-wave ska movement. The founding members—Chris Demakes (vocals/guitar), Roger Lima (bass/vocals), and Vinnie Fiorello (drums)—were later joined by trombone player Buddy Schaub and saxophonist Peter "JR" Wasilewski, solidifying the band’s signature horn-driven sound. Less Than Jake's music is a unique fusion of upbeat brass sections, catchy guitar riffs, and introspective lyrics often dealing with themes of personal growth, rebellion, and the challenges of everyday life. The band gained widespread recognition in the late 1990s and early 2000s with the release of albums like Losing Streak (1996), Hello Rockview (1998), and Borders & Boundaries (2000), which included some of their most iconic tracks, such as “The Science of Selling Yourself Short” and “Dopeman.” Over the years, they have continued to evolve their sound, blending elements of pop-punk, reggae, and rock while staying true to their ska roots. Despite lineup changes and the ups and downs of the music industry, Less Than Jake have remained a beloved staple of the punk and ska communities and continued to release albums sporadically over the years, including See the Light in 2013 and Silver Linings in 2020. They returned in 2024 with a new EP, Uncharted, which took the band to number 16 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart.
