Limahl

With his blond spiky haircut and smooth voice, Limahl was the Harry Styles of the 1980s, leading his group Kajagoogoo to a string of synth-pop anthems and becoming one of the big teenage heartthrobs. Born in Wigan as Christopher Hamill (Limahl is an anagram of his surname), his personality and confidence transformed the band from arty, electronic experimentalists into new romantic pop heroes, alongside the likes of Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls and Spandau Ballet, and they scored the Top 10 singles Ohh To Be Ahh, Big Apple and the classic Number 1 smash Too Shy. The band split in 1983, but Limahl went on to launch his solo career with hits Only For Love and The Neverending Story (composed by Giorgio Moroder for the soundtrack of a fantasy movie of the same name); but his debut album Don't Suppose (1984) failed to make much of an impact. Follow-ups Colour All My Days (1986) and Love Is Blind (1992) also attempted a more mature, credible sound, but neither were too successful and Limahl hit hard times. He reformed Kajagoogoo in 2003 for regular nostalgia shows across Europe, and was last seen appearing in the ITV game show I'm A Celebrity.Get Me Out of Here in 2012.
