L'Impératrice

Known for their glossy disco pop stylings, L’Impératice is a French six-piece from Paris. Born as Charles de Boisseguin’s one-man project in 2012, L’Impératrice independently released an eponymous EP in 2012 and struck a deal with indie label Microqlima Records for a second EP, Sonate Pacifique, issued in 2014. Boisseguin expanded the group’s lineup and recruited keyboardist Hagni Gwon, guitarist Achille Trocellier, bassist David Gaugué, drummer Tom Daveau, and finally vocalist Flore Benguigui for 2015’s Odyssée EP. Two reimaginings of the EP emerged in the following years: the slowed-down L’Empereur (2016) and an acoustic version titled Odyssée (Version Acoustique) (2017). That same year, the band dropped their sixth EP Séquences, which was followed by a collection of remixes. Preceded by the single “Erreur 404,” their studio debut Matahari saw the light in 2018 and spawned a subsequent national tour that was completed in January 2019. Shortly after playing Coachella for the first time, L’Impératrice returned in 2020 with “Fou,” the first single off their 2021 sophomore effort, Tako Tsubo.
