Lionel Belmondo

Saxophonist, composer and arranger Lionel Belmondo is one of the most prominent musicians in contemporary French jazz. With his brother Stéphane on trumpet, he accompanied Dee Dee Bridgewater, then formed the memorable quintet for the album For All Friends (1994, Django Reinhardt Award). Thereafter, this hard bop specialist continued to collaborate with and without his brother, from Yusef Lateef to Milton Nascimento. Between 2004 and 2011, the Belmondo Quintet released a trilogy including Hymne au Soleil, Influence and Clairières Dans Le Ciel. The tenor saxophonist returned to the trio in 2012 for European Standards, inspired by classical scores.
