Formed in 1985 in Valledupar by accordionist Omar Geles and vocalist Miguel Morales, Los Diablitos became one of the most influential vallenato groups in Colombia, known for pioneering the romantic style of the genre. Their debut album De verdad verdad introduced the hit "Tú," marking the start of a prolific career that spanned nearly two decades and multiple vocalists. During their early years with Morales, the group gained popularity with tracks like "Te esperaré," "Por un error," and "Me gustas porque sí," culminating in regional success across Colombia and Venezuela. Following Morales' departure in 1992, Geles recruited Jesús Manuel Estrada, with whom the group released Como los dioses and the iconic "Los caminos de la vida" from the 1993 album Sorpresa Caribe, one of their most enduring anthems. In 1995, Álex Manga became lead singer, ushering in a decade of major success with hits like "Busca un confidente," "Camino al cielo," "No voy a llorar," and "Vas a amarme." As the vallenato genre evolved, Geles rebranded the band in 2004 as La Gente de Omar Geles to align with the Nueva Ola movement. Though the romantic spirit of Los Diablitos defined an era, the group's transition reflected Geles’ drive to innovate. A brief reunion with Manga in 2019 at Arena Monterrey evoked nostalgia for their golden years, while their extensive discography—featuring over 20 studio albums—cements their legacy as one of vallenato’s most beloved groups.
