Los Rodríguez

Los Rodriguez was a multi-national rock band that formed in 1991 in Madrid, Spain. Argentine frontman Ariel Rot and Spanish guitarist Julián Infante previously performed together in the group Tequila, whose 1979 album Rock and Roll was one of Spain's first commercially successful rock records. Meanwhile, Andrés Calamaro built a fanbase throughout the 1980s, first as a member of Los Abuelos de la Nada (many of whose signature hits were written by the multi-instrumentalist) and later as a solo artist. Joined by drummer Germán Vilella, the musicians launched Los Rodriguez in 1991 and released their debut album, Buena Suerte, that same year. They later added bassist Daniel Zamora to the lineup and found commercial success with 1993's Sin Documentos, an album that blended rumba, flamenco, ranchera, straight-forward rock & roll, and Spanish lyrics into its own hybrid. "Dulce Condena," "Salud, Dinero y Amor," and the title track all became radio hits in Spain, and the group toured throughout Spain and Latin America in support of the album's release. After 1995's Palabras Más, Palabras Menos and the 1997 compilation Hasta Luego, Los Rodriguez broke up due to financial disputes. Ariel Rot and Andrés Calamaro both resumed their solo careers following the band's split, while Julian Infante lost a battle with AIDS in 2000. Daniel Zamora passed away seven years later.
