Lucio Dalla has a poetic style all his own, with a voice that could have sung soul or blues. Far from the stereotype of the handsome Italian, Lucio Dalla began his career in 1961 and took almost twenty years to make a name for himself. Lucio Dalla 's revenge was resounding, with sales topping the million mark in 1979. Now a truly popular singer, Lucio Dalla made his mark worldwide in 1986 with DallAmeriCaruso and the hit "Caruso ", a tribute to the legendary tenor Enrico Caruso. The latter went on to sell millions of copies, with versions by Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban. Author of a varied and endearing body of work, Lucio Dalla saw his heart skip a beat on March 1, 2012, the day after a concert in Montreux, Switzerland.
