Luis Jara

Born on October 25, 1965, in Santiago, Chile, Luis Jara starred in the Chilean soap operas De cara al mañana and Los títeres as a teenager before launching an enduring music career during the mid-1980s. After taking second place in 1986's Viña del Mar International Song Festival with his song "Me Hace Falta," he signed with EMI Music and released his debut album, Ámame, that same year. Otra Vez De Cero followed in 1988. Jara released five albums during the remainder of the twentieth century, then topped the Chilean charts in 2002 with "Mañana," a Number 1 smash from his self-titled seventh record. Another track from the same release, "No sé olvidarte," climbed to Number 2 that same year. Jara's success continued with 2005's Tanto amor, an album whose lead single, "Que no daría," also peaked at Number 1. While continuing to chart a number of Top 40 hits throughout the remainder of the 2000s and 2010s, Jara also revived his reputation as a national television personality, hosting shows like Morande con compañía, Tu cara me suena, and Mucho gusto. He began modernizing his sound, too. Released in 2021, "Velita Blanca" found him exploring influences like hip-hop and R&B with his duet partner, rapper O'Daniel.
