Rapper Luther Nicholson – born July 6, 1989, in Charlotte, North Carolina - is better known by his stage name Lute. Formerly a member of Charlotte-based hip-hop collective Forever FC, he went solo after they disbanded and released his debut mixtape, West1996, in 2012. The success of the mixtape brought Lute to the attention of several labels and, in 2015, he signed with J. Cole’s Dreamville Records. After appearing on the label compilation Revenge of the Dreamers II, he released his debut single, “Juggin’”, in 2017, which was followed by his debut album West1996 Pt. 2. Lute spent the next several years touring and collaborating with several artists including Phonte, Omen, and Ari Lennox. One of Lute’s most successful singles was “Under the Sun” (with J. Cole featuring DaBaby), which was lifted from the 2019 label compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III. In early 2020, he returned with the singles “GED (Gettin’ Every Dolla)”, “Life”, which were followed by the album Gold Mouf in October 2021. In March 2022, Lute released his third album Boom Trap.
