Country duo Maddie & Tae, formed by Madison Font (formerly Marlow) and Taylor Kerr (formerly Dye), is based in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A. Despite Maddie being from Sugarland, Texas, and Tae residing in Ada, Oklahoma, they met at a Dallas vocal showcase in 2010, teaming up to perform on the Nashville music scene and signing to Big Machine Records in 2014. Their debut single, "Girl in a Country Song," entered the Billboard Country Airplay chart at number 58, eventually reaching Number 1, 23 weeks later, and earning a Platinum certification. In November 2014, they released their self-titled digital EP, followed by the debut full-length album, Start Here, in August 2015. The single "Fly" reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and the album secured the number 2 position, featuring hit songs “Shut Up and Fish” and “Sierra.” Over the years, Maddie & Tae made TV appearances, toured, and even launched a fashion line with Bloomingdales in 2016. Signing with Mercury Nashville in 2017, their next single "Friends Don’t," hit number 39 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 2018, seeing the duo rebound with “Die From A Broken Heart” which climbed to number 2 on the US Country charts and earned 3 x Platinum certification in 2019. This was followed by digital EP One Heart To Another in April 2019, followed by “Everywhere I’m Goin’” in October the same year. Their second studio album, The Way It Feels, dropped a year later, charting at number 7, and the duo returned in 2022 with EP Through the Madness, Vol. 1, winning the CMT Music Award for Duo/Group Video of the Year for the single "Woman You Got." In September of the same year, they released Through the Madness Vol. 2 and in June 2023, the duo returned with the single “Heart They Didn’t Break.” Unveiling full-length holiday album We Need Christmas in October, their version of the classic “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” charted in the Top 50 country songs chart in Canada.
