Formed in 1985, Madredeus fits perfectly into the world fusion movement. Starting with Portuguese folk roots, fado and bossa nova, Madredeus evolves towards synthetic layers and dreamlike atmospheres. Recognized in Portugal since Os Dias da MadreDeus in 1987, the group achieved international recognition with Ainda in 1995. Ainda served as the soundtrack to Wim Wenders' film Lisbon Story, and enabled Madredeus to perform in a number of countries. O Paraiso in 1997 and Movimento in 2001 are Madredeus' main French successes. Metafonia (2008) and A Nova Aurora (2009) see Madredeus collaborate with the musicians of A Banda Cosmica.
