Magdalena Kožená

A rising star in the world of opera, Czech mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená (b. 1973) made a remarkable debut at the Vienna Volksoper in 1996, before establishing herself on stages the world over in recitals and operas by Gluck(Orpheus and Eurydice), Monteverdi(The Coronation of Poppea) and Mozart(The Clemency of Titus, The Marriage of Figaro). A Lady Rattle (Madame Simon Rattle) in her own right since 2008 and Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres since 2003, the mezzo-soprano has won several awards for her recital discs: Love Songs, Gramophone Award of the Year 2001, was followed by French Arias (2003), Lieder (2004), Ah! Mio Cor (2007), Vivaldi (2009) and Love And Longing (2012). After a new Bach-inspired recording, Bach Bachianas (2012) and a duo collection with Christian Schmitt, Prayer: Voice & Organ (2014), Magdalena Kožená devotes her first opus to Monteverdi.
