Maki Chang

Makichang (real name: Maki Matsumoto), born on September 19, 1987, is a Japanese singer-songwriter from Sōja, Okayama. Known for her emotive piano-based performances and deeply introspective lyrics, she debuted in 2008 with the single "Honey / Chigusa" under the VAP label. Her stage name originated in high school when a live house manager casually wrote “makichang” in a booking notebook. Often compared to Miyuki Nakajima due to her songwriting style, emotional depth, and shared agency, Makichang earned the nickname “Heisei no Nakajima Miyuki.” Her early career gained momentum through music competitions like the 2006 TEENS' MUSIC FESTIVAL, where she advanced to the national level. That exposure led to her debut the following year with a digital single. In 2008, she released her first full-length album Chi to Sei, Moufu to Sex. In 2011, she contributed a love theme to the film Isoroku Yamamoto, the Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Fleet. In 2013, she launched her own label little dude, shifting to independent production. In 2025, she released the new track "Ai to Hoshi".
