In existence since 1972, Malavoi is one of the West Indies greats alongside Kassav'. But Malavoi isn't just a zouk band, it's the inventor of a new kind of West Indian music nourished by salsa, African music and Caribbean rhythms. Initially very popular in Martinique and Guadeloupe, Malavoi also enjoyed success in mainland France with its second incarnation in 1981. The song "Caressé moin" in 1983 with Marijosé Alie remains their hit single, while their albums Zouel (1983), La Case à Lucie (1986) and La Belle Epoque (1993) are acclaimed by the public. Since the beginning of the twenties, Malavoi has devoted most of its time to live performances, and in 2009 released the album Pep La with Ralph Thamar, its historic singer.
