At the height of its popularity, Manau was a trio made up of Martial Tricoche, Hervé Lardic and Cédric Soubiron, a Breton living in the Paris suburbs, who claimed to have created a hitherto unheard-of form of "Celtic rap". The group's song "La Tribu de Dana" (1998) was inspired by the traditional "Tri Martolod". Despite the controversy it provoked in the ranks of Breton music (led by Alan Stivell), Manau toured France and Europe, selling over three million albums in the process.
