Argentine singer María de los Ángeles Becerra (February 12, 2000), better known as María Becerra, rose to fame as an influencer and went on to spearhead the urban pop movement in her native country. Born in the city of Quilmes, she developed an early interest in the performing arts from a very young age, taking singing and dancing lessons at the age of 7. In 2015, she began posting covers on social media, something that quickly evolved into a video-streaming channel where she shared songs, dance tutorials, and vlogs. Soon enough, María Becerra became one of the most popular content creators in Argentina, winning a Kids' Choice Awards for Favorite Musical Influencer in 2018. She kicked off her music career in 2019 with the EP 222, which contained the singles “Tu Lady,” “Nada de Amor,” and “Dime Cómo Hago.” That year, the non-album single “High” became her first official chart entry, peaking at Number 59 on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100. A remix of the track featuring Tini Stoessel and Spanish singer Lola Índigo reached Number 2 on said chart only a year later. The Number 1 single “Miénteme” with Tini arrived in 2021, as well as her studio debut, Animal. The album included the Becky G collaboration “Wow Wow,” which went to Number 3 in Argentina.
