Marie Ueda (born on September 22, 1990 in Fukuoka, Japan) is a Japanese singer and songwriter. At age 12, Ueda won the Jaccom music festival, declining representation by a talent agency, stating that she simply wanted to make music. After graduating from junior high school, Ueda moved to Osaka to focus on writing songs and performing, releasing six digital singles in 2008, followed by EP Taikutsu na Coppelia in July with indie label Tent House, who produced two further EPs, U.M.E (2009) and Houmuru Liquid Room (2010) as well as her first album Sentimental na Rhythm (2012). Having attracted a considerable following, Ueda signed with Giza Studio, making her major debut in August 2014, releasing Kare ni Mamotte Hoshii 10 no koto, which debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Japan Radio Songs Chart. After two successful tours, Ueda released her first major studio album Hanashi wa Sorekara da in April 2015, with several tracks used for television shows and commercials. Her second studio album Lonely Night Magic Spell enjoyed similar success, debuting at number 30 on the Oricon Weekly Album Charts. Touring extensively for several years, Ueda released several live albums and DVDs as well as mini albums F.A.R and W.A.H in 2019 and in 2020, released her third studio album Heartbreaker, featuring the track “What’s” appearing in the film Mrs Noisy, which premiered at the 33rd Tokyo Film Festival in October, 2020. On September 23, 2022, Ueda performed a mini concert in her home town of Kurume to celebrate the release of her fourth album Euphoria, followed by her first tour in over three years.
