Mario Duarte, born in Barranquilla on June 17, 1965, is a Colombian actor and musician known for his dual career in rock and television. He first gained recognition in the early 1990s as the lead vocalist of the rock band La Derecha, which found success with songs like "Sombras" and "Ay que dolor." After the group disbanded, he transitioned to acting, making his debut in La madre (1998) before achieving widespread fame as Nicolás Mora in the iconic telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea (1999-2001). He continued his television career with roles in La hija del mariachi (2007), Amor en custodia (2009-2010), and Café con aroma de mujer (2021). Musically, La Derecha reunited in 2011 to release Polvo eres, followed by the 2016 EP Árbol torcido and the 2019 album Últimas funciones. As a solo artist, he debuted with Golpe de ala (2000) and later released singles like "Very Well" (2021) and "Satélite" (2024). A two-time TVyNovelas Award winner, Duarte remains a celebrated figure in Colombian entertainment, balancing music and acting with continued success.
