Marius Müller-Westernhagen (born December 6, 1948 in Düsseldorf), later known simply as Westernhagen, is a rock musician and actor from Germany. Marius Müller-Westernhagen initially began his artistic career as an actor. He appeared in films as a teenager. From the 1970s, he also tried his hand as a musician. The singer first attracted attention with the album Mit Pfefferminz Bin Ich Dein Prinz (1978). The single of the same name made it to number 19 in the German charts in 1979 and achieved double platinum status. However, Marius Müller-Westernhagen still sees himself more as a singing actor. In 1980, he landed a cinema hit as the leading actor in the film Theo Gegen Den Rest der Welt. In the mid-1980s, the artist devoted himself more and more to music. With the albums Halleluja (1989) and Live (1990), he scored two number 1 hits. With "Sexy" (1989 from the album Halleluja) and "Freiheit" (1990 from the album Live), the artist wrote two major hits. In the 1990s, all of Marius Müller-Westernhagen's albums reached number 1 in the German charts. With the songs "Krieg" (1992 from the album Jaja), "Es Geht Mir Gut" (1994 from the album Affentheater) and "Wieder Hier" (1998 from the album Radio Maria), he wrote hits for the ages. In the 2000s, the singer once again achieved two number 1 albums with In den Wahnsinn (2002) and Nahaufnahme (2005). After that, Marius Müller-Westernhagen takes his time between releases. the album Williamsburg (number 2 in Germany) followed in 2009 and the longplayer Alphatier (number 1 in Germany) in 2014. In 2016, Marius Müller-Westernhagen once again took to the live stage for an MTV Unplugged concert. The accompanying album climbs to number 2 in the German charts. In 2019, Marius Müller-Westernhagen releases Das Pfefferminz-Experiment (Woodstock Recordings Vol. 1), an album with new interpretations of his old classics in country style. Westernhagen delivers new material with Das eine Leben in 2022. At the end of 2023, the artist celebrates his 75th birthday with the best-of album Westernhagen 75 (75 Songs: 1974 - 2023).
