Originally from San Francisco (1995), Matmos moved to Baltimore. Since their 1997 debut album of the same name, the duo of Drew Daniel and Martin C. Schmidt have specialized in ambient-tinged electro, largely inspired by experimental rock and musique concrète. The duo's fame took a leap forward when they remixed Björk's " Alarm Call " in 1998, and contributed to Björk's albums Vespertine (2001) and Medulla (2004). Matmos's output expanded with the albums A Chance to Cut Is a Chance to Cure (2001), The Civil War (2003), The Rose Has Teeth in the Mouth of a Beast (2006) and Supreme Balloon (2008). Experimentation continues on subsequent releases on their new label Thrill Jockey: The Marriage of True Minds (2013) and Ultimate Care II (2016).
