The Danish-Chilean singer Medina was born Andrea Valbak in Aurhus, Denmark in 1982. In 2008 she released her second album 'Welkommen til Medina', and the lead single 'Kun for Mig' went to number one in the Danish singles charts and was eventually certified triple-platinum. Buoyed by the success of the single, her record company released an English version of the track, now translated to 'You and I', and it became a pan-European club hit reaching the top ten in Germany and number 39 in the UK. Valbak quickly capitalised on the widespread success of the single and during the next 12 months embarked on an energetic drive to promote the album. Her efforts were recognised at the 2010 Danish Music Awards where she won no less than six categories including Danish Female Artist of the Year and Danish Album of the Year.
