If superheroes have their Avengers, heavy metal can count on Metal Allegiance, a band that has been bringing together luminaries of the genre since 2011. Previous contributors to this crazy project initiated by Mark Menghi include David Ellefson (Megadeth), Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater, The Winery Dogs) and Alex Skolnick (Testament), who now form the core group, as well as Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown (Pantera), Joey Belladonna, Frank Bello, Charlie Benante and Scott Ian (all members of Anthrax), Gary Holt, Kerry King, Dave Lombardo (members of Slayer), Chuck Billy (Testament), Troy Sanders (Mastodon) and Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), to name but a few. A few surprise concert appearances also make Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath), Phil Campbell and Mickey Dee (Motörhead), Wolfgang Van Halen, Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs) honorary members of this noisy congregation. Sharing a love of metal, to which they pledge allegiance as their name suggests, but also of performance, the members of Metal Allegiance give substance to this unusual experience in 2015 with a homonymous debut album mixed by Josh Wilbur, renowned for his work with Lamb of God, Avenged Sevenfold and Gojira.
