Michael Hirte, born on October 10, 1964 in Spremberg, is a German harmonica player. He became famous after winning the second season of the RTL casting show Das Supertalent in 2008. Hirte plays instrumental music that can mainly be classified as folk music and pop. His interpretations of well-known melodies on the harmonica are characterized by a soulful and melancholy style of playing. His debut album Der Mann mit der Mundharmonika was released in December 2008 and immediately reached number 1 in the album charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Further successful albums followed, including Der Mann mit der Mundharmonika 2 (2009), Einsamer Hirte & die schönsten Weihnachtslieder (2009) and Liebesgrüße auf der Mundharmonika (2013). Michael Hirte's latest album Unsere schöne Heimat will be released on November 15, 2019. It contains instrumental versions of well-known German folk songs and pop hits. His most important awards include: Goldene Henne 2009 in the "Readers' Choice Award for Music" category, Krone der Volksmusik 2010 as "Most Successful Instrumental Soloist" and smago! Award 2014 as "Most successful instrumentalist of the last 6 years". Michael Hirte has also received several gold and platinum awards for his album sales. in 2010, Dieter Bohlen presented him with a five-time gold record at the finale of Das Supertalent for selling over 1.3 million records in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
