Born Joseph François Michel Rivard on September 27, 1951 in Montreal (Canada), Michel Rivard is a Quebec pop singer. In 1969, he began his career as an actor in the TV series Rue des Pignons . In 1970, he began to showcase his talents as a songwriter, composer and musician with the troupe La Quenouille Bleue. At the same time, he took on theatrical roles and recorded a few soundtracks. In 1972, the musical group Beau Dommage was formed with Pierre Bertrand, Marie Michèle Desrosiers, Réal Desrosiers, Michel Hinton, Pierre Huet and Robert Léger. Launched in 1974, the group's first album shattered sales records for the time, selling over 350,000 copies. The Beau Dommage adventure continued for three years, with a total of four albums and numerous tours. In 1976, he composed the soundtrack for André Brassard's film Le Soleil Se Lève En Retard. In 1977, he released his first solo album, Méfiez-Vous Du Grand Amour , with the title track, which topped the charts for two weeks. The group Beau Dommage folded in 1978. That same year, he performed in Paris, opening for Maxime Le Forestier. The following year saw the release of his second opus, De Longueuil À Berlin . In 1983, his album Sauvage placed three songs in the Quebec charts, including " Rumeurs sur la vie ". In 1985, he took part in the Quebec-Africa Foundation, singing in the collective project Les Yeux de la Faim . Seven tracks from his 1987 album Un Trou Dans les Nuages hit the Quebec radio charts, including " Je voudrais voir la mer ", " Libérer le trésor " and " Ma Blonde est les poissons ". In September 1988, Michel Rivard takes part in the big musical show produced for Amnesty International at Montreal's Olympic Stadium, in front of over 50,000 people, along with Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Tracy Chapman and Daniel Lavoie. He also wrote several songs in the 1980s, including Gerry Boulet's " Toujours vivant ", La Bottine Souriante's " Martin de la chasse-galerie " and several Offenbach songs. He released a self-titled album in 1989, followed in 1992 by Le Goût de l'Eau . In 1994, the group Beau Dommage was resurrected with a new studio album, followed by a tour of Quebec and Europe. He also appeared in the popular Quebec TV series Scoop . He returned in 1998 with a solo opus entitled Maudit Bonheur, where the title track hit number one for two weeks in Quebec. In 2010, Michel Rivard composed and wrote the folk opera Les Filles de Caleb, inspired by the work of Arlette Cousture. In 2012, he was a judge on the Quebec edition of Star Académie, and the following year launched the album Roi de Rien . In January 2023, he presents a show entitled Le Tour du Bloc , celebrating 50 years in the business.
