Drummer-accompanist to singer Sturgill Simpson since 2014, Miles Miller launched a solo career ten years later with the album Solid Gold. Originally from Versailles, Kentucky, he learned to play drums in high school and played in jazz bands and a school marching band, before moving to Nashville to study music marketing. His meeting with producer Dave Cobb led to a collaboration with country singer Sturgill Simpson, who hired him as drummer for the album Metamodern Sounds in Country Music (2014) and subsequent releases until 2021. When the singer experienced health problems, he collaborated with Tyler Childers and the bluegrass band Town Mountain. Simpson's time away from the stage led him to prepare his first solo album Solid Gold (2023), nourished by his various Americana, folk and bluegrass influences, with the production assistance of his former employer.
