Mulan Jameela - born Raden Terry Tantri Wulansari in Malangbong, Garut, Indonesia on August 23, 1979 - is a female singer and politician. She worked as a solo artist and sang with several bands before coming to prominence in Ratu, an Indonesian duo, with Maia Ahmad. Their debut album, Ratu & Friends, was a big success along with the single “Tean Tapi Mesra”. The duo, who were also very popular in Malaysia and Singapore, became the most popular female group in Indonesia at the time. Their second album, No. Satu, was issued in 2006 and was also a big success. Mulan Jameela quit the award-winning duo in 2007 in order to pursue a solo career. Her self-titled album was released in 2008. The album’s two singles – “Makhluk Tuhan Paling Sexy” and “Wonder Woman” – hit the Number 1 spot on the Indonesian charts. The album was certified Platinum (100,000 copies sold) just a few weeks after release. She released two more albums – 99 Volume 1 (2013) and 99 Volume 2: Patience (2016) – before turning her attention to politics. She was elected to become a member of the People’s Representative Council from the Great Indonesia Movement Party for a five-year term beginning in 2019.
