My Aunt Mary

My Aunt Mary (Korean: 마이앤트메리) is a South Korean rock band formed in 1995, known for their significant contribution to the indie music scene in Korea. The band originally consisted of Jeong Soonyong (vocals, guitar), Lee Jeyoon (bass), and Han Jinyoung (drums), later joined by Park Jeongjoon. They made their debut with the self-titled album My Aunt Mary in 1999. Their second album, 2002 Rock n' Roll Star (2001), solidified their presence in the Korean rock scene, and their third album, Just Pop (2004), won the prestigious Album of the Year award at the 2005 Korean Music Awards. The band’s sound blends pop rock and jangle pop, marked by catchy melodies and emotional lyrics. Their fourth album, Drift (2006), and fifth album, Circle (2008), further developed their musical style. Following a brief hiatus after 2009, where members pursued solo projects, including Jeong Soonyong’s solo work under the name Thomas Cook, My Aunt Mary reunited in 2022. In 2023, they released the EP Right Now and participated in major Korean rock festivals like the DMZ Peace Train Music Festival.
