Luck played a major part in the fortunes of Myballoon, a relatively short-lived German rock band who formed in Berlin during the latter part of 1996. In 1998 the band won a competition which gave them enough studio time to record their fist album 'Turned My Way. The album earned them a place in the prestigious Emergenza music competition and they eventually beat 1,500 other hopeful bands from across Europe to take first prize. Their reward was a place on the Warped Tour to play as support to Ice-T and The Doctors, however, they turned down the prize in favour of an alternative which was a gig at the famous Whiskey a Go Go club in West Hollywood. Myballoon turned the appearance into a mini tour and played in Portland, New York and Los Angeles during their stay in the USA. In 2000 the band enjoyed their only major radio hit with 'On My Way', a song which later made it onto various greatest hits compilations. Later that year it seemed as if their lucky streak had come to an end when the aircraft on which they were travelling crashed in a forest over southern Germany on the way to gig. Remarkably all three members walked away and lived to tell the tale. The band recorded just one more album and in 2006 their record company decided not to renew their contract.
