The Portuguese-Canadian singer and songwriter Nelly Furtado was born on December 2, 1978 in Victoria, USA. She learned to play various instruments such as the piano, trombone and guitar as a child. She began composing her own songs at the age of 12. Her first solo album Whoa, Nelly! (2000) brought her international attention. Driven by the first single "I'm Like a Bird", her mixture of pop, R&B and folk elements takes her on a journey that ends with a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2002. With the second single " Turn Off The Light" and the follow-up album Folklore (2003), she consolidated her position on the pop circuit and gained more and more fans. The success story culminated in the album Loose in 2006. The album reaches number 1 in the charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. "All Good Things (Come to an End)" also climbs to the top of the charts in these countries. The album also reaches the top of the charts in the USA and Canada. The singles "Maneater", "Promiscuous" (together with Timbaland) and "Say It Right" are absolute hits on music television and radio. As an international superstar, she is also a sought-after feature guest. "Give It to Me" (2007), the collaboration with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake, is just as successful as "Broken Strings" (2008) with James Morrison. The song reached number 1 in the charts in Germany and Austria. The albums Mi plan (2009) and The Spirit Indestructible (2012) landed reliably in the top 10 in German-speaking countries. After a five-year break, Nelly Furtado released her sixth studio album The Ride in 2017, including the pre-release single "Pipe Dreams". The artist then took a longer break. In 2023, she returned with Timbaland and the song "Keep Going On". In 2024, the singles "Gala y Dalí" (together with Juanes), "Love Bites" (together with SG Lewis and Tove Lo) and "Corazón" (together with Bomba Estéreo) announce the next studio album. 7 will be released in September 2024.
